Ditjes un Datjes, ist Plattdeutsch und bedeute soviel wie „Dies und Das“ und genau darum geht es heute bei mir, um ein bischen von allem. Als halber „Fischkopp“ folge ich der guten alten Tradition und habe die wunderbaren, leckeren, einzigartigen und weltallerbesten Neujahrskuchen meiner Mama gemampft. Diese gibt es nur zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr und ich freue mich schon das ganze Jahr darauf. Ein tolles Rezept findet ihr hier, das meiner Mama ist ein altes Familienrezept und somit streng geheim. Tut mir leid, ich darf es leider nicht verraten, meine Familie würde mich sonst kielholen. 😉
Ditjes un Datjes, is Low German and it means litarely „this and that“, and that’s the accurate Motto for today’s article, a little bit of everything. Beeing a half „Fischkopp“ (= fish head= ironic and sometimes not so nice title for people from Friesland), I follow the good old tradition and munched the wonderful, delicious, unique and world’s-best New Year cakes made by my Mama. These are only available between Christmas and New Year and I look forward to them all year. A great recipe for New Year cakes can be found here, unfortunately it’s in only in German. I found another one in English on food.com, it’s not quite like the traditional recipes, but close enough, considering that most of you won’t have access to Kandis. My mom’s recipe is an old family recipe and thus strictly confidential. Sorry, I am not allowed to share, my familiy might keel-haul me. 😉
Mein Vorsatz für das neue Jahr ist, meinen Schreibtisch im Büro zu pimpen und meine Steuerunterlagen ordentlich zu sammeln. Optimistisch wie ich bin gehe ich davon aus, dass mindestens eine Sache davon gelingen wird. Also habe ich mir für den Start schon einmal einen kleinen Tischkalender von Desing-is-Yay ausgedruckt.
My resolution for the new year is to pimp my desk in the office and collect my tax documents neatly. Optimistic as I am, I assume that at least one thing will be managed successfully. So for starters I’ve already printed out a small table calendar by Desing-is-Yay.
Damit das gute Stück auch zukünftig meinen Schreibtisch verschönern kann, habe ich noch einen kleinen Ständer aus Kartonresten gebaut.
Thus, the cute piece can beatify my desk in the future, I have built a small stand of cardboard residues.
Mein zweiter Favorit ist der Kalender von The Ink Nest, der ist ja soo hübsch. Hach, da weiß man ja gar nicht welchen man nehmen soll. Allerdings ist er nicht völlig gratis, man muss mit einem Social-Link „bezahlen“, gemeint ist, dass man den Link auf Twitter oder Facebook teilt und dann den Kalender herunterladen kann. In diesem Fall habe ich das doch gerne gemacht. 😀
My second favorite is the calendar from The Ink Nest, which is sooo pretty. Huh, I do not even know which one to pick. However, it’s not completely free, you have to „pay“ with a social link, meaning you share the link on Twitter or Facebook and then you can download the calendar. In this case, I liked to do that instantly. 😀

Das Einzige was ich zu meiner Verteidigung vorbringen kann ist, dass ich ein Ex-80er Jahre-Teenie bin, die Ihren babypinken Sweater und den dazugehörigen Igelschnitt mit vollem Stolz getragen hat. Oh mein…, dass war mal ein kolossaler Fehler. Lasst Euch bloß keinen Igelschnitt verpassen, wenn Ihr Locken habt, da ist der Schaf-Look garantiert. Im Ernst jetzt, macht das bloß nicht! Na schön, wo war ich… ach ja, Last Christmas, vor ein paar Tagen habe ich eine großartige Coverversion gefunden, die ich Euch nicht vorenthalten möchte. Erlend Oye singt ihn sooo schön ganz ohne Schnickschnack und in Begleitung seiner Gitarre.
They always say admitting is the first step to recovery. Well here it comes … you must be very strong now … I still like love Wham’s „Last Xmas“! To my defence I can only say I am a Ex-Eighties-Teenie, who wore her pink sweater and croped hair cut proudly. Oh my…, that was one of the great fails in my life. Never ever get a 2 cm cropped hair cut when you’ve got curly hair. You’ll just look like some sheep. Seriously, don’t! So where was I again? Right, last Christmas. Recently I found a very beautiful version of this song on youtube and I fell in love all over again. Erlend Oye stripped the song bare to it’s core and now it’s just his warm voice, emotions and an accustic guitar.
So, noch 2 Tage bis Heiligabend und es wird ernst mit dem Geschenke verpacken, nach einer ordentlichen Portion Plätzchen und Caramel-Macchiato sollte das wohl auch klappen. Um die Sache ein wenig zu verkürzen, habe ich eine Pillow-Box entworfen. Sie ist mintfarbend und schreit förmlich nach Schokolade, Pfefferminz-Pralinen und Marzipan und…., okay, vielleicht ist es auch nur mein Zucker-gedoptes Hirn. Wie auch immer, hier nun mein erstes Freebie für Euch.
So by now we should be all hopefully in the right mood for the hardest part, wrapping up presents. To make it easier I came up with a fancy pillow-box that literally screams chocolate and mint pralinés and marzipan and ….., oh well, mabe it’s just my sugar-triggered brain. Anyway here ist the first freebie for you.
Hier noch ein paar ganz einfache Verpackungsideen, die schnell nach gemacht sind.
Here are also a few gift wrapping ideas of mine that are pretty easy to do.
Lace & Snowflake: Verpackt Euer Geschenk in unifarbenes Papier und klebt einen weiteren Streifen Papier mittig um das Geschenk. Nun klebt Ihr auf den Streifen eine Spitzenbordüre. Schneidet anschließend Kreise in verschiedenen Farben und Größen aus, klebt diese dann in der Mitte zusammen. Achtet darauf, dass an den Rändern kein Kleber ist, damit das Ganze ein wenig lockerer wirkt. Befestigt die Papierkreise auf dem Geschenk und klebt noch eine hübsche Verzierung auf. /Wrap your gift and put another stripe of paper around it. Glue a lacy ribbon onto the second stripe. Cut out circles in different sizes and matching paper. Glue them together, but just in the middle. Make sure that the edges are still loose, because at the end you push them a little bit up, so the paper isn’t just flat and boring. Glue some embellishment onto the circles and then attach it to your gift.
Round Box: Die runde Dose habe ich aus weißem und beigefarbenen Tonkarton , sowie buntem Geschenkpapier gemacht. Die kleine Minischleife habe ich nach dieser Anleitung gebastelt. Es geht ganz einfach und man braucht nur Band und eine Gabel. / I made this box from white card stock, beige cardstock and gift wrapping paper. I found this tutorial for the little bow on printerest. The bow is so adorable and you make it with just a fork.
Christmas Rose: Beklebt Euer verpacktes Geschenk mit zwei über einander liegenden Papierstreifen. Scheidet Euch 5 Kreise mit einem Durchmesser von 2,5 cm aus. Klebt sie anschließend in überlappenden Schichten zusammen und verziert den Blütenkelch mit einem Pearl Pen oder Glitterkleber. / Place two different colored and sized paper stripes. Cut out 5 circles (25 mm diameter), attach them in overlapping layers. Emphazise the calyx with a pearl pen or glitter glue an attach it to your gift.
Zu Weihnachten verschenke ich gerne kleine Aufmerksamkeiten an Freunde oder Nachbarn, nichts Besonderes nur eine Kleinigkeit die sagt „ich denke an dich und wünsche dir nur das Beste“. Die kleinen Zwiebelboxen sind für diese Zwecke ganz wunderbar geeignet, meint Ihr nicht auch?

Am letzten Wochenende fand in Hagen das Stempel Mekka 2013 statt, und weil es bis dort hin nur ein Katzensprung ist, sind wir (der weltallerbeste kleine Schwester & ich) da mal schnell hingedüst. Es gab eine Menge schöner Dinge zu bestauen und wir sind schnell fündig geworden. Hier sind ein paar Eindrücke und unsere schönsten Beutestücke.
Last weekend, the stamp Mecca in 2013 was held in Hagen, and because it is only a stone’s throw from there, we (the world’s best little sister & me) jetted off to the convention. There were a lot of nice things to bestauen and we have quickly found it. Here are a few impressions of the convention and our loot.
Nach 4 wilden Stunden im Stempel Mekka mussten wir natürlich gleich mal unserer lieben Mama von dem Großeinkauf berichten. / After 4 wild hours spend at the convention we had to tell our lovely Mama all about the bulk purchase.
Mam: „Wie war’denn? Habt ihr was Schönes gekauft?“ / „How was it? Did you bought something nice?“
Kerstin: „Also ich habe 29, das macht dann ……………………………71 Stempel insgesamt.“ / „So I have 29, which makes then …………………………… 71 stamps in total.“
Mam: „71?!!!!! Ihr seid ja verrückt!“ / „71!? You’re crazy!“
Beide: „Nein gar nicht, die waren ja alle so billig.“ / Both: „No, are not, they were all sooo inexpensive.
Anke: „Die waren mindestens dreimal billiger als im Laden.“/ „They were at least three times cheaper than in stores.“
Mam: „Ich wusste schon immer, dass ich Euch beide zu heiß gebadet habe.“ / „I always knew I bathed you too hot when you were kids.“ (= german idiom for „you’re nuts“ or like „dropping someone on their head to offen“)

New In My Bookcase
Anlässlich des Stempel-Mekkas möchte ich Euch heute ein Buch vorstellen, das sich seit ein paar Wochen in meinem Bücherregal tummelt. Es ist von Meagan Lewis und heißt „Stempel Liebe“. In 4 Kapiteln erklärt Meagan wie man verschiedene Druck- und Stempeltechniken nutzt. Die Techniken werden in 20 verschiedenen Projekten umgesetzt, deren Themen von Dekorieren bis Ordnung schaffen reichen. Die Projekte sind übersichtlich und ansprechend, so dass sich vor allem Anfänger über dieses kleine Sammelsurium freuen dürften, für fortgeschrittene Stempelschnitzer enthält das Buch nichts Neues, aber die Aufmachung und die Projekte bieten eine Menge Inspiration für eigene Idee. Besonders gut an dem Buch gefällt mir der Grundlagenteil, in dem Meagan Lewis die verschiedenen Möglichkeiten und Eigenschaften von Druckfarben und Materialien beschreibt, auch kommen Tips zur Stempelpflege und eine SOS-Stempelhilfe nicht zu kurz. Neulich habe ich auch Ihren Onlineshop Brown Pigeon auf etsy gefunden, in dem sie fertig Stempel und noch einiges mehr verkauft.
On the occasion of the Stamp Mekka 2013 I want to present a book to you that actually hangs out in my bookcase for a few weeks. It is by Meagan Lewis and it’s called „put your stamp on it.“ In 4 chapters Meagan explains how to use various printing and stamping techniques. The techniques are implemented in 20 different projects, ranging from to decorating to organizing. The projects have a clear structured instructions and have a appealing desing. I can recommend this little hodgepoge of creativity for Beginners, though the book does not spread knew knowledge for advanced stamp carver, but the presentation and the projects offer a lot of inspiration for your own idea. My favorite part of the book ist Meagan’s despription of the stamping basics, as properties and range of printing inks and materials or tips for care and troublshooting. Recently I discoverd Meagan’s online shopBrown Pigeonon etsy, where she sells ready made stamps and more.

Nun,ich muss noch die Geschenke für meine Schwester und meine Mutter kaufen, aber das Geschenk für meinen Vater könnt Ihr schon auf dem Foto bewundern. Natürlich werde ich noch nicht verraten was drin ist, nur für den Fall der Fälle. Was ich Euch heute wirklich zeigen möchte ist, wie man ganz schnell einen tollen Stempel mit Hilfe von Plätzchenaustechern zaubern kann.
So, how about the christmas gifts for all your loved ones, do you got everything already? Well, I still need to buy some gifts for my sister and my mother, but the gift for my father, you can already admire in the photo. Of course I will not tell what’s inside, just in case my Dad keeps on snooping around. What I really want to show you today, is how to creat a great stamp with cookie cutters in no time.
1.) Das Material zusammenstellen. Ihr braucht ein Plätzchenaustecher, einen print block für Gummistempel, Linolschnitzwerkzeug, einen Bleistift und Papier zum Bedrucken.
Gather your material. You need a cookie cutter, rubber print block, linoleum cutting tools, a pencil and some paper to print on.
2.) Das Förmchen auf dem Gummmiblock platzieren und die Grundform des Stempels ausstechen, in dem Ihr das Förmchen fest in den Printblock drückt.
Place the cookie cutter onto the printing block and now cut out the basic form of the stamp by pressing the cutter firmly into the printing block.
3.) Weitere Muster mit einem Bleistift aufmalen und mit dem Linolmesser herausschnitzen.
Draw more details on the stamp and carve them out. 4.) Stempel drauf los und fertige mit dem Stempel Anhänger, Geschenkpapier, weihnachtliche Briefumschläge und Briefpapier, …
